West Ham’s landlords on brink of going bust – so mayor and council fight to avoid humiliation of Hammers being locked out of London Stadium

New dispute over the club's low-cost lease seems certain as the price of keeping E20 Stadium LLP out of administration is likely to be MORE public funding on top of hundreds of millions.

The Mayor of London and Newham Council will move heaven and earth to avoid the humiliation of the Hammers being locked out of their ground or made homeless.

Ground share with Tottenham?

This is fuxking hilarious, including gph's suggestion.

I suppose the only thing to do is let us buy it cheap. To the tax payers rescue yet again.

The Daves will love this. They'll be on the blower in the morning saying "We're going to do you a massive favour and take this money pit of a white elephant off you. I think a pound sounds more than fair".

So, basically, we're probably going to now be able to buy the whole place for an absolute pittance?

How would THAT idea make today any better mate?

NS - No, that's the thing. Our contract is unbreakable according to reports. It transfers to who ever takes it on. Like a sitting tenant, who's going to live for another 97 years.

Can we get the Daves to take on Brexit in their spare time?

How much to flatten the cesspit and build a proper football ground?
Because that is the only sensible thing to do.

h

It would be the desirable thing to do, for the fans. It's not sensible though, and neither are you.

I think that our owners will step in and take the stadium off the government's hands on as soon as they can get it for next to nothing. Probably when Labour take over...

Someone else might buy it and change the deal.

Re: West Ham’s landlords on brink of going bust
There is no surprise here. It will never make money based on it's current setup. It was a massive mistake not to put in proper retractable seating.
This has nothing to do with West Hams tenancy a few days a year and everything to do with the fact that the rest of the time it's sat in the middle of nowhere doing nothing.
I said years ago it will have to be sold after the 2017 Athletic commitment. It's a money pit.
Isn't there a bid for Commonwealth games in Birmingham to build athletics facilities there?

Trevor B 10:28 Thu Oct 26
Re: West Ham’s landlords on brink of going bust
As soon as it was ruled that we could not buy the stadium it was the board's aim to strike the worst possible deal for the landlord and taxpayer so that, eventually, they would have little choice than to sell up to us.

Re: West Ham’s landlords on brink of going bust
Someone else could buy it and try and force us to pay more by locking us out but I can't see the point as it would mean a long and expensive legal fight.

What other income does the place have? You might as well knock it down then

Re: West Ham’s landlords on brink of going bust
West Ham have a 99 year lease and are sitting tenants Just because the owners of the stadium might go into liquidation is not a reason for new owners to lock WH out.

They would be committing commercial suicide because the legal damages awarded to WH would be enormous...

If the stadium is not commercially viable no-one will buy it to lose money. It is only WH that can make it viable and run a nice little side-line profit in pop concerts etc...

Spot on.

Buy it, flatten it, rebuild it, build a few pubs around the ground, build a supporters club around the ground, West Ham own the lot and get all the takings. Job done.
